What to expect in Therapy

Getting Started

Starting therapy can feel intimidating, and my goal is to make the process as clear, comfortable, and supportive as possible. Therapy is collaborative. You are the expert on your own life — my role is to help you develop insight, skills, and strategies to support your goals.

Therapy is collaborative. You are the expert on your own life — my role is to help you develop insight, skills, and strategies to support your goals.

The First Session

The first session is focused on getting to know you.

We will typically talk about:
• What is currently challenging in your life
• Your history related to recovery, stress, or trauma if relevant
• Your goals for therapy
• What has or has not worked for you in the past

You do not need to have everything figured out before starting therapy. Many clients begin therapy while still exploring what they want to work on.

How Therapy Works With Me

I take a compassionate but direct approach to therapy.

While I provide a supportive and nonjudgmental space, I also help clients challenge patterns that may be contributing to stress, substance use, anxiety, or emotional distress.

Therapy often focuses on:
• Understanding patterns of behavior and emotion
• Developing practical coping strategies
• Improving emotional regulation skills
• Supporting recovery and relapse prevention
• Building confidence and stability in daily life

The goal is to help you make meaningful, real-life changes outside of therapy sessions.

Session Structure

Sessions are typically:
• 50 minutes long
• Focused on your current goals and challenges
• Tailored to your individual needs

I use an integrative approach that may include:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Person-centered therapy
  • Strengths-based approaches

Treatment is always customized to the individual.

Who I Work Best With

I work best with adults who want to build stability, emotional health, and long-term recovery success.

I specialize in working with adults experiencing:
• Substance use concerns
• Early recovery or recovery maintenance
• Anxiety and stress
• Trauma-related concerns
• Life transitions and relationship challenges

My ideal clients are motivated to make changes and are looking for practical, supportive guidance.

How Long Do People Stay In Therapy?

Therapy length varies based on individual goals.

Some clients attend therapy for short-term support around a specific issue.
Others prefer longer-term recovery and emotional growth work.

We will regularly review progress and goals together.

Insurance and Private Pay

I am in-network with select insurance plans and also offer private pay sessions.

I currently maintain limited availability to ensure high-quality, individualized care.
